Membership Fees Update
The Club Committee is pleased to inform you that, thanks to improved revenue from higher membership numbers, we are able to postpone until later in the year the monthly membership fee increases that were agreed at last yearís Annual General Meeting and were due to be implemented on 1st April.
Also on the subject of fees, we would like to thank all of you who have signed up to pay their monthly fees by direct debit. The collection of membership fees is very time-consuming and using a direct debit system does help to reduce the workload of our loyal volunteers. So we would be most grateful if those of you that havenít already signed up to GoCardless could please do so.

We are very saddened to learn that Ian Harker, who was a major figure and key volunteer at our club for over 20 years, passed away last week.
Ian became involved in the club in the late 1980's when two of his daughters, Beth and Sam, joined as swimmers. He became Club Treasurer in 1989 and held this role continuously until 2009. Throughout his stewardship the club maintained sound finances and avoided any of the financial hiccups that are common-place in clubs elsewhere. He also officiated for many years at our galas and was qualified up to referee level. In the early 1990's Ian's wife, Sue, started the club swim shop which she ran until Ian stood down as Treasurer and, of course, their two daughters, Karen and Jo, are continuing in the family tradition and are now running the shop for us.
Our sincerest condolences are extended to Sue and all of her family.

Solihull Water Polo Team Success Continues
Our menís water
polo team made a good start to the second phase of the British Water Polo
League season last week-end. Having
gained successive promotions from Division 5 to Division 3 in the last two
seasons they are now seeking to gain a further promotion to Division 2. To achieve this, a top
three place is needed in the second phase of the season, this is named Championship 2. The teams opening
match was bit tentative and they were held to a 14-14 draw by Exeter. The team then produced convincing wins against Manchester Hawks 18-8 and against
Hucknall 16-10 to put them back on track.
Goals were shared between Tom Whiting (11), Peter Farkas (9), Jordan
Elliot (7), Phil Powell (7), Matt Madden (6), Nick Beard (5) and Matt Kelly
(3). Worth noting that, of the 12
players who featured at the week-end, 7 are under 18 including two aged 15,
Matt Madden and Felix Black. Congratulations to the team and coaches.

Coach Development Programme
In June this year the ASA West Midland Region with the support of British Swimming launched a new programme for coaches. Coaches across the region were invited to submit applications for this new initiative. Only 12 places were available and the head of the programme was overwhelmed by the number of applicants. Dean, our Head Coach, is one of the successful candidates.
To qualify for this, our own Club had to be swim21 accredited, actively supporting the swimming talent pathway in the West Midland Region and committed to the development of their coaches. The coaches themselves had to be Level 2 and aspiring to undertake Level 3; Dean is already a Level 3 coach. Coaching county level age group swimmers, with a number of our swimmers getting thier Warwickshire Championship times also supports the criteria. The coach must also be committed to his own development and reflect on his own performance.
Dean will be attending 6 workshops over 10 months starting this September. He will be appointed a Level 4 mentor who will also attend some of our club sessions to observe and support him. The aim of this programme is to expand the knowledge of the coaches and influence their coaching behaviour in better support of the swimmers. As parents we know that each child is unique so a different practice should be used to help each individual child; every child will have different goals. Tim Jones, a former Olympic swimmer, now Head of Performance Pathway for British Swimming recently said "the ongoing education and development of our coaches is a key priority in our quest to raise the quality of the next generation of high performance swimmers ".
We have all watched some of the swimming at the recent Commonwealth Games and seen the home nations performing extremely well. When interviewed, many swimmers praised their coaches and referred to it as a partnership - one cannot succeed without the other. Congratulations to Dean for obtaining a place and for being willing to commit to further learning and development, it will be a benefit to all our swimmer and to the Club itself.

2014 Monthly Membership Fees & Annual Subscription Fee
Club members will shortly be receiving a letter regarding 2014 monthly membership fees and the new annual subscription fee.
We are pleased to inform you that, despite the Club continuing to incur increased pool hire charges, the monthly standing orders payable for each class of membership will remain unchanged for 2014. Therefore all current membership fee standing orders remain in place and no action needs to be taken.
However, each of our members has to be registered with the Amateur Swimming Association (the ASA) and in 2014 this will require the Club to pay a fee ranging from £10.50 upwards for each member. To help offset this cost, it was agreed at the Club's Annual General Meeting that an annual club subscription fee be introduced and payable on 1st January of each year. It was further agreed that the subscription fee for 2014 is set at £10 for all members falling into ASA Categories 1 and 2 (all swimming members). No fee will be payable by ASA Category 3 members who are non-swimming volunteers and help on a regular basis. Any member who has not paid the subscription by 31st January may be liable to exclusion from club sessions until it is paid.
Details of how to pay can be found in the letter. We have also taken the opportunity to check contact details for you (address, telephone numbers, email address) together with a form on photography consent approval. For your information, we have also included a copy of the Chairman/Secretary's annual report that was presented at the recent Annual General Meeting.
