Ann-Marie Aston

Chair

Ann-Marie has been with the club since 2004 when her son started swimming with SSC. Her daughter joined in 2007 and went on to compete in the County Championships and Midlands Regionals. Ann-Marie took on the role of Fixtures Secretary, organising SSC attendance at the various leagues, and stayed in that role for many years, even after her children had stopped swimming. During this time she also completed her Judge 1 and Coaching Level 1 qualifications, alongside a busy job as a solicitor.

In 2023 Ann-Marie took on the Club Secretary role and in January 2024 she was elected Chair of SSC.

Ann-Marie has a long running affiliation and commitment to the club, which shines through in the way she administers her role as Chair - often seen poolside, helping with coaching and acting as Recorder or Announcer at galas and club champs - we are very lucky to have her!

Ian Jolly

Vice Chair

Ian joined the club in 1987 as a young swimmer. He has since gone on to represent the club both in competitive swimming and water polo.

Along with his duties as Vice Chair Ian also coaches water polo for the club and West Midlands region.

You can catch Ian at sessions throughout the week.

Mark Nutter

Treasurer

Mark joined SSC as a child in 1984 and swam for Solihull and then for Nottingham University up until 1999. He now has 2 children swimming for Solihull and has become increasingly involved in the club.

Mark is a poolside helper, team manager and qualified J1 Official, so he is a regular on poolside at galas and meets. Mark joined the committee in December 2023 and became treasurer in March 2024.

Jo Harker-Barguss

Membership Secretary

Jo is a long-standing member of Solihull Swimming Club and a familiar friendly face poolside, particularly for those swimmers who started out in our lessons at Tudor Grange. She has been with the club for 14 years and has three children swimming and playing water polo for Solihull.

Jo started her volunteering with SSC in our swim shop and has since held the post of Open Meet Secretary before taking on Membership Secretary in 2019. She oversees membership for all aspects of our club - from lessons to squad swimming and water polo.

Charlene McCalla

Workforce Coordinator

Charlene is our Workforce Coordinator. She manages our pool of volunteers, ensuring that we have sufficient Team Managers, Coaches, Officials and Timekeepers at Open Meets and League Galas. She coordinates volunteer training and recruits new helpers from our parent network.

Charlene's son has been swimming with SSC since 2017, achieving Regional times and co-swimming with City of Birmingham. Charlene started volunteering for SSC in 2021 as Covid Liaison - supporting our squads to get back to swimming safely. She became Workforce Coordinator in 2023.

Charlene is a familiar and very enthusiastic presence as Team Manager at many Open Meets and Galas. She is a huge fan of jelly sweets on competition days - you can win her heart with Fizzy Fish, Tangfastics and Sourpatch Kids - parents take note for those gala lunchboxes!
